MUIC Students Win Awards at Chula Model UN Conference 2021

Two students from Mahidol University International College (MUIC) won top awards in the recently concluded Chula Model United Nations Conference 2021 which had the theme “Uncovering the Obscured.

Ms. Koshakorn Pakdeesatitvara (major in International Relations & Global Affairs) won the Best Position Paper Award in the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC). On the other hand, Ms. Pinda Viriyapongsri (major in International Relations & Global Affairs) won the Best Position Paper Award, this time in the Historical Legal Committee (HLC).

Held on April 9-11, 2021, the conference was a collaboration between the Chula MUN Club and MUIC MUN Club. Several MUIC students also served as the dias of the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM). These students were Mr. Benjamin Wangcharoenwong (major in Finance) as Chair, Ms. Nuttanicha Phlongphan (major in International Relations & Global Affairs) as Co-chair, and Mr. Yu-Cheng Lin (major in International Business) as Rapporteur.

Along with Ms. Koshakorn and Ms. Pinda, the MUIC delegation included Mr. Aiyawat Likhitsotthiwong (major in International Relations & Global Affairs), Mr. Atiwat Rachatawarn (major in Computer Science), Mr. Piyush Saraf (major in Finance), Mr. Bunkueanun Francis Paothong (major in International Relations & Global Affairs), Ms. Sujanawati Gurung (major in Biological Science), Ms. Piriyapon Aungsusing (major in Biological Science) Ms. Siriwimol Pholcharoen (major in Finance), Ms. Narapath Vittayaamuaykoon (major in International Relations & Global Affairs), Ms. Apinya Visalyangkul (major in International Relations & Global Affairs), and Mr. Mohammed Altaf Hossain (major in International Relations & Global Affairs).

The topics discussed during the Chula MUN Conference included: SOCHUM’s a) “The question of accountability in the practice of policing public demonstration,” and b) “The impact of artificial intelligence on data privacy;” DISEC’s a) “Restoring stability of post-political conflict countries;” HLC’s a) “A question of human dignity and rights: Does torture and other cruel inhuman or degrading treatments or punishments have a place in 1975,” and b) “Which China will be China: Determining the rightful representation of China in the United Nations.”
