On October 25, 2023, Mahidol University International College’s International Relations and Global Affairs (IRGA) program hosted a significant event featuring His Excellency Mark Gooding, the UK Ambassador to Thailand, as a guest speaker. The forum, titled “Post Brexit UK Policy in Southeast Asia,” took place at the Charinyarasami Hall in the Aditayathorn Building.
Ambassador Gooding highlighted the UK’s commitment to Southeast Asia and its shared values, including sovereignty, territorial integrity, and freedom and democracy. He emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with the region in various areas, such as climate change, maritime security, bioenergy, and peace and security. The ambassador also stressed the significance of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in regional affairs and the need for the UK to maintain good bilateral relations with Southeast Asian countries.
The hosting of the event featuring Ambassador Mark Gooding speaking before MUIC students provided an educational opportunity for students to learn from a high-ranking diplomat about global affairs, international relations, and the UK’s foreign policy, which strongly aligns with SDG 4- Quality Education.
