The American Flag Football competitive team of Mahidol University International College (MUIC) showcased a powerful blend of tactical improvement and elite sportsmanship at the Sabai D Cup 2026, held on March 22, 2026 at the 2nd Cavalry Division King’s Royal Guard. Facing off in a four-team field, the team secured a 3rd Place finish that signaled a major turning point for the program.
Coming off a disappointing previous performance, the team entered the tournament with a revamped roster and a refined strategy. The team was composed of selected players from the American Flag Football Club who showed potential along with former club members who had joined previous competitions. The adjustments paid immediate dividends. MUIC dominated Assumption University with a commanding 26-0 shutout, proving that their rigorous practice schedule and new personnel were a winning combination.
While the scoreboard recorded losses against powerhouse opponents—18-12 to Team Rocket and 32-28 to Team Sharks—the narrow margins told a story of rapid evolution. In past encounters, MUIC had failed to score against the Sharks; this time, they were within a single touchdown of an upset.
The highlight of the day, however, was not a play on the field, but a display of integrity. During the matchup against the Sharks, a referee error omitted a Shark touchdown, briefly giving MUIC a 28-26 lead. In a move that earned the respect of the league, the MUIC players immediately corrected the officials and ensured the scoreboard reflected the Sharks’ rightful points, even though it meant accepting a loss and MUIC came 3rd Place overall.
The day concluded with total MUIC dominance in the 1v1 Mini-Game Challenge. Representing the squad, Andaman Eckley (Offense) and Lorenzo Romanelli (Defense) defeated every opponent to emerge as the undisputed 1v1 champions.
