Business Sustainability in Thailand and Asia Tackled in MUIC-HSLU Course

Participants of the 14th Executive Study Week, organized by Mahidol University International College (MUIC) in collaboration with Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) in Switzerland, took part in a full day dedicated to Sustainability in Asia and Thailand on February 10, 2026.

The day opened with a lecture by Mr. Arman Bidarbakht, from the Statistics Division of UNESCAP, who provided an overview of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) progress in the Asia-Pacific region. Although challenges still persist, including in data availability, he emphasized that significant advances have been achieved in recent years, notably in strengthening the regions’ statistical capacity to support evidence-based policymaking.

This was followed by a lecture by Asst. Prof. Dr. Isabel Pereira Rodrigues, a faculty member of MUIC’s Business Administration Division, focusing on how firms can transform challenges into opportunities for creating long-term value. The session underlined the importance of measuring and reporting as essential first steps to identify risks, uncover opportunities, and design incentives that encourage positive and sustainable change.

In the afternoon, participants visited the headquarters of Thai Wah Public Co. in Bangkok, where they were warmly welcomed by Khun Kamonchanok Areerat, Senior Manager for Sustainability and Innovation. During this highly interactive session, senior officers from various business units introduced the company’s core activities and shared insights into innovative projects being developed by Thai Wah and its agribusiness partners. These initiatives illustrated how Thai businesses are actively advancing sustainability practices across Thailand and the broader Asia-Pacific region. The visit concluded with an engaging workshop on materiality assessment, encouraging participants to reflect on how organizations identify and prioritize sustainability issues

Overall, the day offered participants from MUIC and HSLU a valuable opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to sustainability challenges and solutions in the Asian and Thai contexts. Participants were particularly impressed by the strong commitment demonstrated by Thai businesses in delivering sustainable products and services

MUIC expresses its sincere appreciation to all distinguished speakers and industry partners for their generous knowledge-sharing and for making this exceptional learning experience possible. The College looks forward to future opportunities for collaborative and practice-oriented learning.
