Mahidol University International College (MUIC) is charting a new course for academic innovation, launching a key collaboration with Scotland's acclaimed University of Strathclyde to embed an entrepreneurial spirit across its campus. The initiative kicked off with a dynamic two-day workshop, "Entrepreneurial Thinking & Value Creation: Pathways to Impact," held on March 19-20, 2026.
The event, hosted at Charinyarasami Hall, brought together MUIC’s executive team and faculty members to learn from an expert, Prof. Eleanor Shaw OBE FAoSS FRSA, Associate Principal at the University of Strathclyde.
Prof. Shaw shared the blueprint for her university’s strategy, "Strathclyde Inspire." Launched in 2019, the program has successfully created a university-wide culture that encourages students and staff to explore their entrepreneurial potential, develop innovative mindsets, and turn research and ideas into tangible, high-impact ventures.
The first day's session focused on high-level strategy for MUIC’s executive team. The goal is to develop a unique framework for MUIC that incentivizes and supports academics in becoming more entrepreneurial, driving impactful outcomes from their work across all disciplines to enhance value creation.
On March 20, Prof. Chulathida Chomchai, MD, MUIC Dean, gave the welcome remarks at this landmark event. Prof. Shaw then facilitated a workshop for MUIC faculty members. This included going over the output from the previous day’s workshop. The session also provided practical tools for integrating entrepreneurial thinking into their teaching and research, empowering them to guide their students in maximizing their own creative and commercial potential.
By the end of the intensive workshop, participants gained a clearer vision of how an entrepreneurial mindset can enrich the academic environment. The sessions helped faculty identify which "pathways to impact"—be it through commercialization, social enterprise, or policy influence—are best suited to their specific areas of expertise, marking a significant milestone in MUIC's journey to becoming a hub of academic and social innovation.
