Mahidol University International College’s (MUIC) International Relations and Global Affairs Program, in collaboration with the college’s Model United Nations Club, hosted its second event for academic year 2022-2023 on November 22, 2022 at Seminar Room 1210, MUIC Building 1 as part of its guest lecture series.

The event consisted of two on-site lectures: “Soft Power Dynamics Across East Asia” featuring Dr. Daniele Carminati, and “International Trade and Human Rights Law” featuring Dr. Matthew Gillett. The event, including the discussion, was co-moderated by Asst. Prof. William J. Jones, Chair of the Social Science Division, and Mr. Faris Waesahmae (MUIC MUN’s Head of the Academic Team).

The event, attended by 33 students and lecturers, was aimed at expanding the attendees’ academic interest and understanding of soft power, power relations, and international law, which are concepts that are essential in understanding international relations and global politics. These concepts are highly applicable to the understanding of the United Nations as an intergovernmental organization, its organs, and its role in ensuring global peace and security.
