Mahidol University International College’s (MUIC) MUN Club achieved remarkable success at the recent Thammasat University Model United Nations 2024 (TUMUN), returning home with six prestigious awards and a wealth of valuable experience.

The conference, held under the theme "Understanding Discontent, Mending Division," took place at the United Nations ESCAP on January 12, 2024, and at the Navy Hall, Arun Amarin Road, Bangkok from January 13 to 14, 2024.

Four outstanding MUICMUN members represented the club across three key committees: The Legal Committee, the United Nations Security Council, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Each student demonstrated exceptional skills in negotiation, diplomacy, and representation, resulting in a series of impressive accolades.

In the Legal Committee, Mr. Danuch Karnjanayothin, a 3rd Year International Relations and Global Affairs student representing the United Kingdom, swept the competition with both the Best Position Paper and Outstanding Delegate awards for the topic of “International Customary Law and the Terrorism Exception in Sovereign Immunity.” His well-crafted position paper and impactful performance throughout the committee sessions truly set him apart.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council committee (UNSC) witnessed the stellar performance of Ms. Koshakorn Pakdeesatitvara, a 4th Year International Relations and Global Affairs student, and Mr. Ibrahim Dawoodjee, a 3rd Year Biological Sciences student, under the topic of “Systematic Instability in the Sahel (Mali).” As double delegates of the Islamic Republic of Iran, both of them earned Honorable Mention awards for their significant contributions to the committee's discussions.

Rounding out the MUICMUN Club's success story, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) committee had undergone a fruitful discussion over the issue of “the Humanitarian Crisis Unfolding in the Wake of the Russo-Ukrainian Conflict and its Implications.” Mr. Intaj Suwannaporn, a 4th Year Finance student representing the United States of America, and Mr. Jiratt Pluemthanom, a 2nd Year International Relations and Global Affairs student representing the Republic of Belarus, received Honorable Mention and Outstanding Delegate awards, respectively. Their dedication and insightful approach to refugee-related issues made a lasting impression on the committee members.

Beyond the awards, TUMUN2024 offered its participants a unique opportunity to delve into the art of negotiation and diplomacy. The conference fostered meaningful interactions and connections between passionate individuals from diverse academic institutions, contributing to a stronger sense of community and collaboration among them.

MUICMUN Club's remarkable performance at TUMUN2024 is a testament to the club's commitment to nurturing future leaders in international relations, diplomacy, and global citizenship.
