Thirty-one members of Mahidol University International College’s (MUIC) Case Club put their individual strategic capabilities to the test on May 19, 2026, during an intensive individual case competition held in Seminar Room 1210.
Unlike standard team-based formats, the event required participants to work entirely alone.
With no team members to divide research, slide production, or panel Q&A, each contestant had just two hours to analyze a complex business case, develop a presentation deck, and defend their strategy before a panel of judges.
The competition featured 88rising, the Asian American music and media company behind artists like Rich Brian and Joji, using a case developed by the Asia Case Research Centre at HKU Business School. Competitors evaluated a core strategic dilemma: whether 88rising should maintain its distinctive niche brand identity or broaden its roster to achieve global scale at the risk of brand dilution.
Following rigorous individual presentations, Ashita Agarwal earned 1st Place. Nataya Kuangyuttamongkol received the Best Speaker Award, while Gangmin Kwon received top honors for Best Slide Design.
The individual competition aimed to simulate the high-pressure environment of external case competition rounds. MUIC Case Club plans to run additional individual and team rounds throughout the term to strengthen member readiness for upcoming regional case competitions.
