Mahidol University International College (MUIC) held a comprehensive academic promotion workshop with the theme, "From Understanding to Action" on September 10, 2026 at the Co-Create Room, 6th Floor of MUIC Building 1. The day-long event drew almost 50 faculty members seeking to clear a path toward higher academic ranks.

The morning session, focused on "Understanding the System," kicked off with opening remarks from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yingyot Chiaravutthi, Associate Dean, before diving into institutional frameworks. Mr. Chutchalun Intaracha from Mahidol University Human Resources (MUHR) led the initial segments, detailing central regulations, promotion criteria, and common pitfalls. He also provided tactical guidance on compiling teaching and research evidence to help faculty prepare applications confidently.

The internal evaluation process was discussed by Ms. Sasithon Panyanak from MUIC’s Research Promotion and Management Section, who explained how applications are reviewed internally. Concluding the morning, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Penchan Pradubmook Sherer from the MU Central Institutional Review Board (IRB) highlighted critical ethical requirements and research ethics necessary for submission.

Following a lunch break, the afternoon session shifted toward "Showcasing Your Academic Work." Assoc. Prof. Thomas Guadamuz, representing the Sub-Committee of Academic Promotion, offered an invaluable reviewer's perspective on effectively structuring and presenting an academic portfolio.

The highlight of the afternoon was a dynamic panel discussion titled "The Promotion Journey," moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Malinvisa Sakdiyakorn, Associate Dean for HR. The panel featured highly distinguished faculty members, including Prof. Dr. Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, MU Vice President for Global Partnerships and University Council; Prof. Dr. Viriya Taecharungroj, Director of MU’s Institute for Technology and Innovation Management (iNT); Asst. Prof. Dr. Dynaya Bhutipunthu, Chair of the Fine and Applied Arts Division; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanida Hansawasdi, Associate Dean for Research and Academic Services. They shared first-hand experiences, navigated common career challenges, and offered practical tips from their own successful promotion applications.

By the workshop's conclusion, participants left better equipped to strategically align their academic outputs with institutional standards, successfully turning the promotion blueprint into structured, actionable career progress.

On August 22, 2026, I completed my first IRONMAN triathlon in Tallinn, Estonia: a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km bike ride, and a 42.2 km marathon. It took me 11 hours and 35 minutes. While one of the perks of finishing an IRONMAN is the right to brag, that isn’t the point of this post. The point is that MUIC supported me in achieving this personal goal through the 40th Anniversary Academic Changemakers Scholarship.
