The world of international diplomacy can seem intimidating, filled with complex procedures and high-stakes debate. Yet, for one afternoon, 50 students at Mahidol University International College (MUIC) transformed from curious newcomers into active delegates debating one of the world's most challenging geopolitical issues.

The MUIC Model United Nations (MUN) Club kicked off its Trimester 3 calendar with “MUN101!” on May 22, 2026. Held at the Aditayathorn Building, the event was designed as a beginner’s boot camp for students interested in exploring the world of global affairs and diplomacy.

The workshop began with a theoretical session led by MUICMUN Club President Apiwich Yuckphan, who introduced participants to the history of Model United Nations, essential conference skills, and the rules of procedure that govern MUN conferences. This foundational knowledge prepared students for the practical simulation that followed.

Transitioning from theory to practice, the venue was transformed into a mock United Nations conference hall. Under the guidance of the club’s academic team, Yoonjung Chang and Nattanon Puttarangsee, participants took on the role of delegates and debated the South China Sea dispute, one of the region’s most significant geopolitical issues.

In a fast-paced battle of wits, students developed speeches, responded to arguments, navigated public speaking challenges, and practiced the art of negotiation and diplomacy. The mini-conference provided an immersive opportunity to apply newly acquired knowledge in a realistic diplomatic setting.

The club hopes the experience inspired participants to pursue further involvement in Model United Nations conferences and deepen their interest in international relations, diplomacy, and global governance.
