Embarking on Their Studies Abroad

Another batch of MUIC students will go on exchange studies abroad by September this year. As of last count, 152 students will be leaving for their exchange destinations, many of whom receiving support from MUIC through the Young Ambassador Scholarship grant. We were able to have a chat with some of these eager and excited outbound exchange students and ask them about their thoughts on their forthcoming journey.

2nd Year, International Business
Exchange Studies Destination: Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain

“Going to study abroad in Spain would be a great opportunity for me to explore the culture more deeply. UC3M in Madrid is one of the top business universities in Spain and is ranked among the best in Europe with a high academic reputation, modern facilities, and great public transportation system. It’s a good place to learn and meet people from different countries. Also, I can improve my English and Spanish skills, which can help me when I work in an international company in the future.

“I hope to explore new cultures and learn how to take care of myself independently while living in Europe. It will be my first time leaving the country alone, and I know it won’t be easy but I believe that’s part of the journey in life. I’m excited to meet new international friends, gain new perspectives, learn in new and different surroundings, and improve my life skills.”

Exchange Studies Destination: University of Wisconsin-Madison (United States)

“I decided on UW-M because it is considered as a “Public Ivy,” a government university with the same quality of education and status as an Ivy League school such as Harvard University. It is also famous for its being a research university. This makes it a great place to learn how to do high level research and to meet experts in specialized fields not just from the US, but from all over the world.

This is also an opportunity for me to take courses that are not offered at MUIC. An example of this is the extensive selection of courses specializing in national security, which is one of my special interests within IRGA. The geographical location of the university also played a role in my decision. With the university being in the Midwestern region of the US, I will get to experience all four seasons, which will be a first-in-a-lifetime experience for me. Lastly, the city where the university is located, Madison, is a college town and provides a peaceful and academic environment for studying. The city is also one of the most walkable cities in the country, making it perfect for many students like me who do not have a car and whose main way of transportation is either walking or cycling.”

2nd Year, Travel and Service Business Entrepreneurship
Exchange Studies Destination: Universitat de Barcelona (CETT), Spain

I chose Spain because I’m currently learning Spanish, and it would be very helpful if I lived in an environment where people speak Spanish. Also, Universitat de Barcelona offers courses that match my major at MUIC. I would also like to travel around Europe, and studying in Spain is a great opportunity for me to accomplish that. I anticipate gaining more experience, learning about diverse cultures, having fun connecting with people there, and of course, gaining valuable knowledge.”

“It all started when I had to choose a language class to fulfill my general education courses—I was deciding between German and Spanish. While exploring both languages, I also took some time to research the countries and their cultures, people, and lifestyles through online platforms and student reviews. UC3M stood out for its strong academic and international vibes, and being located in Madrid which is a lively and culturally rich city, made the decision even easier. Also, I want to immerse myself in Spanish, which is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. Being on exchange studies is not just about focusing on the academic side but also about personal growth, language development, and experiencing a new way of life, especially through the different cultures in the other sides of the world.”

Going on exchange studies is indeed a once-in-a-lifetime experience that would contribute to a student’s development. At MUIC, we encourage our students to become an exchange student and choose from among our hundred or so partner universities abroad.
