MUICMUN Shines at 1st Thailand National Model United Nations Conference

The Mahidol University International College Model United Nations (MUICMUN) Club recently sent nine delegates to participate in the first Thailand National Model United Nations Conference (TNMUN) held at the United Nations ESCAP and Lancaster Bangkok Hotel on January 9-12, 2025.

Under the theme, “Leaving No One Behind: Fostering Inclusion, Bridging the Digital Divide, Enhancing Sustainability, and Building Resilience through a Human Rights-Based Approach and Good Global Governance,” this prestigious event brought together young leaders from various high schools and universities in Thailand to tackle pressing international issues.

Organized in collaboration with six Thai universities and international institutions, TNMUN 2025 provided a platform for youth aged 15-25 to engage in critical discussions, hone their diplomatic skills, and explore innovative solutions to global challenges. The conference aimed to inspire future global leaders to create a more inclusive and sustainable world.

The MUICMUN Delegation excelled across various committees, showcasing their exceptional preparation and diplomatic prowess. As a result, they were the proud recipients of several awards:

1.      United Nations Security Council (UNSC)

  • Delegates: Apiwich “Anfield” Yuckphan and Tawan “Tawan” Lairaksa, 2nd Year ICIR students
  • Achievement: Representing China, the pair received the Best Position Paper Award for their insightful and well-researched submission.

2.      6th Committee of the United Nations General Assembly (Legal Committee)

  • Delegate: Jiratt “Boom” Pluemthanom, 3rd Year ICIR student
  • Achievement: Representing Brazil, Boom earned the Honorable Delegate Award for his exceptional contributions to the committee’s debates.

3.      United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA)

  • Delegate: Pornpiseth “Imaimjai” Semson, 3rd Year ICIR student
  • Achievement: Representing the United Kingdom, Imaimjai was awarded the prestigious Best Delegate Award for her outstanding performance.

In addition to individual accolades, the MUICMUN Delegation was honored with the Outstanding Delegation Team Award, recognizing the team’s collective excellence and collaboration throughout the conference.

While some delegates achieved notable awards, all committee members demonstrated commendable dedication and gained valuable insights during the conference:

  • Panyawat “Ross” Wongliukul, 2nd Year ICIR student – Committee: SOCHUM, Country: China
  • Metawee “Max” Phethin and Sinanpat “Phun” Itthipeeyakorn2nd Year IR students – Committee: UNSC, Country: Burundi
  • Pimradapas Nutty Dontresanoh, 3rd Year ICIR student – Committee: LEGAL, Country: India
  • Panlaphat “Paris” Leelittigoonchai, 2nd Year ICIR student – Committee: LEGAL, Country: Switzerland

All of the club’s delegates contributed to the vibrant discussions and strengthened their diplomatic and problem-solving skills. Their participation reflected MUICMUN’s commitment to fostering the development of future leaders and global citizens.

The club’s officers said the success of MUICMUN at TNMUN 2025 underscored the club’s dedication to excellence in diplomacy, collaboration, and global engagement: “We look forward to continuing this tradition of achievement in future conferences!
