Mahidol University International College’s Model United Nations Club (MUICMUN) hosted its highly anticipated event, “MUN Trial Run,” on November 14, 2025 at Room A418 Aditayathorn Building.

This one-day, beginner-friendly MUN simulation was designed to introduce the 19 participating students to the fundamentals of global diplomacy, negotiation, and UN-style debate. The event welcomed new delegates and members from various majors who were eager to experience the dynamic environment of MUN for the first time.

Centered around the timely and complex topic of the South China Sea dispute, the simulation provided participants with a hands-on opportunity to assume the role of country representatives. Delegates were tasked with researching their assigned nation, understanding its positions, and preparing arguments from scratch. Before the simulation began, MUICMUN’s Academic Team conducted an orientation session to explain parliamentary procedure, the rules of debate, and the essential components of drafting a resolution to ensure that even first-time delegates felt confident stepping into their roles.

Throughout the day, the atmosphere in the committee room was engaging and collaborative. Delegates demonstrated impressive enthusiasm as they delivered opening speeches, formed alliances, negotiated clauses, and responded to geopolitical challenges. What stood out most was the level of participation: even beginners actively raised points, drafted solutions, and engaged in cross-country negotiations. The committee quickly found momentum, and despite the complexity of the issue, delegates worked together to build a shared understanding and propose solutions.

The highlight of the event came during the final voting session, where a resolution, which was drafted collectively by multiple blocs, was passed smoothly. This outcome surprised many, as South China Sea discussions often result in a political deadlock.

By the end of the day, attendees left with newly developed critical-thinking, negotiation, public speaking, and research skills, which are the key abilities that Model United Nations is known for developing. Many students expressed interest in joining future MUICMUN activities, conferences, and training sessions.

The “MUN Trial Run” successfully achieved its goal of welcoming newcomers into the world of MUN and MUICMUN looks forward to hosting more interactive and educational events to inspire the next generation of young diplomats.

Aside from getting positive feedback, the fund-raising activity also helped boost the confidence of the participating students, enhanced their sense of collaboration and overall built stronger bond between them.
