Several students from Mahidol University International College’s (MUIC) Communication Design Program (CDP) have channeled their creative talents into a vital public health initiative, developing a series of animated videos for the “CHEERS” campaign, a project led by the Institute of HIV Research and Innovation (IHRI) (https://ihri.org/th/).
The campaign, supported by ViiV Healthcare, is designed to raise awareness and reduce health risks associated with substance use among young people across Thailand. The collaboration gave the participating CDP students—under the guidance of their mentors—a powerful, hands-on opportunity to apply their skills to a critical real-world issue.
The project was integrated into the "Moving Images by Design” course, where students worked in five teams to produce short animated clips. Each team tackled a sensitive and complex theme relevant to modern youth culture, including peer pressure, mental health, sexual wellness, and self-identity.
This initiative is a prime example of experiential learning, bridging the gap between academic theory and practical application. It also reflects MUIC’s commitment to achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those concerning Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Gender Equality (SDG 5), and Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10).
Following a final presentation on March 27, 2026, representatives from IHRI will select the most impactful animations to feature across the institute's official social media platforms. This will bring the students' work to a nationwide audience, directly contributing to a campaign aimed at creating a safer and healthier future for Thailand's youth.
