Mahidol University International College’s (MUIC) Kendo Club conducted a weekly training program every Monday from January 23 to March 20, 2023 at MUIC Building 1.

According to the club, the training was designed to impart the fundamentals of the Japanese martial art and sport known as kendo. In these sessions, the participants not only learned the basics of practicing kendo but also gained cultural knowledge related to this discipline.

A total of 22 students and one lecturer participated in the training.

Though the lessons were beginner-friendly, the club assured that there is a gradual introduction of more advanced lessons as the participant’s skills progressed. Among the basic lessons taught were proper etiquette in the dojo, how to use the bamboo sword, footwork, basic strikes, posture, breathing techniques, and the mental attitude necessary for success in this martial art.

The club added that these kendo activities appealed to both Japanese culture aficionados and martial arts enthusiasts alike as they offered a unique opportunity to learn about a traditional Japanese martial art while also gaining cultural knowledge and physical training. Overall, the club claimed that the kendo training was a great success.
