MUIC Students Receive Awards in MU-ICT Hackathon

Mahidol University International College (MUIC) undergraduate students were recognized for their innovative use of artificial intelligence (AI) in library services at the recent Mahidol AI Hackathon 2023.

The Hackathon, organized by ICT Mahidol, Mahidol University Library and Knowledge Center, and the Institute of Technology and Innovation Management (iNT), challenged participants to develop a prototype AI-based book recommendation system within 24 hours.

Of the 15 eligible teams, three were from MUIC. Team Neo Librarians received an Honorable Mention Award while Mr. Shann Chongwattananukul from Team Neo Librarians also won the Iron Man Award. Team Lorax won the Special Prize while Team Insomnia bagged the Surprise Award, demonstrating their excellence in data visualization and AI technology.

“Mahidol AI Hackathon: AI for Library Services” was organized by ICT Mahidol together with Mahidol University Library and Knowledge Center, as well as the Institute of Technology and Innovation Management (iNT), under the theme "AI for Library Services" during March 18 - 19, 2023 at the Faculty of ICT, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus.

The Library’s resources and services have been invaluable in our students' academic success, and we recognize the crucial role that they play in shaping the future of our students and our community,” Nadthawee Promprasit, a member of Team Neo Librarians, said.

“To all young students, I encourage you to explore the endless possibilities that the library has to offer. From books and journals to facilities like collaborating room or Netflix services, the library is a gateway to knowledge and creativity. Embrace the opportunities that the library provides and discover your potential for greatness,” said Sivakorn Kengmala also of Team Neo Librarians.

“Once again, thank you to the Mahidol University Library and Knowledge Center and MUIC Library for their unwavering support, and we look forward to continuing our partnership in creating a brighter future for our students," added Nadthawee.

The Mahidol AI Hackathon is part of the university's efforts to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among students, encouraging them to apply their knowledge and skills in solving real-world problems.

MUIC congratulated the students for their remarkable achievement.
