Mahidol University International College’s (MUIC)Model United Nations (MUN) Club hosted a mock conference centered around the theme of “Crisis Management.”

The simulation, held on June 13, 2025 at Room A420 of Aditayathorn Building, tasked delegates with representing countries while responding to real-time challenges. A unique feature of this event was the mid-session country swap, in which participants were unexpectedly reassigned to new nations without prior notice. This twist tested delegates’ adaptability and forced them to quickly understand and defend the policies of their new countries—often with viewpoints that sharply contrasted with their original positions.

The conference, participated in by 18 students, focused on the ongoing tensions in the South China Sea. Delegates took on roles either as directly involved nations or as neutral countries advocating for peaceful resolution. To increase realism, fake news was spread to mimic the role of media manipulation in international crises by some countries. The session concluded with the successful passage of a resolution, reflecting a collective agreement among the member states to work collaboratively toward resolving the issue.

This mock conference was designed to enhance students’ leadership, diplomatic negotiation, and public speaking skills. By navigating dynamic political situations and adjusting to new national roles on the spot, delegates gained a broader understanding of international relations. The experience encouraged critical thinking and the ability to see complex global issues from multiple perspectives—key skills for anyone pursuing a future in diplomacy or international affairs.
