The Master of Management in International Tourism and Hospitality Management (MM) program of Mahidol University International College (MUIC) conducted its “Orientation & Networking 2024” on September 13-14, 2024 at the Royal Thai Navy Base in Sattahip, Chonburi province.

The activity was organized under the purview of the MM program, under the leadership of Dr. Veerades Panvisavas, Chair of the Tourism and Hospitality Management (THM) Division, and Dr. Sarinya Sungkatavat, MM Program Director. There were 20 MM students from four different batches who participated in this event.

The main objectives of this activity were to provide practical knowledge on environmental and natural conservation, create networks between seniors and juniors, introduce the MU and MUIC facilities and services, and present study plans to meet the students’ objectives and enable them to graduate on time.

Personnel at the Royal Thai Navy Base in Sattahip warmly welcomed students who registered in the MM program. The sailors introduced coral planting method to the students along with insightful perspectives on sea turtle conservation, which is an important variable that helps control the number of jellyfish, sea grass, and sea sponges to create a natural balance for the students who visited.

During the academic session, Dr. Veerades and Dr. Sarinya introduced the details of the core and elective courses, factors to consider in selecting either the Plan A (Thesis) or Plan B (Thematic Paper), research procedures, and how to plan their studies so they would graduate as soon as they complete the required five academic terms. Participants provided very positive feedback and succeeded in networking with their classmates during the trip. The two THM officials assured the new students that the program shall continue to host the activities every year.

On August 22, 2026, I completed my first IRONMAN triathlon in Tallinn, Estonia: a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km bike ride, and a 42.2 km marathon. It took me 11 hours and 35 minutes. While one of the perks of finishing an IRONMAN is the right to brag, that isn’t the point of this post. The point is that MUIC supported me in achieving this personal goal through the 40th Anniversary Academic Changemakers Scholarship.
