Mahidol University International College’s (MUIC) Sign Language Club organized an American Sign Language (ASL) intermediate class onsite called “Gain the Upperhand” at Room A202, Aditayathorn Building on March 7, 2023.

This activity garnered 14 participants who were interested to learn 25 phrases that can be used in conversation with someone of the hard-of-hearing community. Most of the participants in this intermediate level class had already learned basic sign language before in the Beginner ASL Class, so most of them can easily learned and understood ASL.

Since it was the first phrases class on campus after previously conducting it online— it provided a quiet environment for the participants since beginner level classes were more popular amongst participants. The students started to learn little by little and required them to have sharp memories on how to do ASL. The sentences can be incorporated in basic daily conversation such as asking for help or getting to know someone better in ASL.

The Sign Language Club provides ASL classes and related activities every trimester. Be updated through our social media platforms @muicslc!
