What’s the Best Part of Your Science Major?
March 12, 2025 2025-03-12 7:12What’s the Best Part of Your Science Major?
Three Science Division programs—Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, and Computer Science, have recently been accredited, respectively, by Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) University Recognition Program, American Chemistry Society (ACS), and ASEAN University Network – Quality Assurance (AUN-QA), respectively.
This means that the three programs have met the international standards set by the three abovementioned accreditation institutions. How does being accredited impact the students’ learning? To have an idea, three students from three programs of the Science Division were asked, “What’s the best part of your major?” And here are their answers.

Mr. Vignesh Roachthavilit
Applied Mathematics Student
“Our ajarns’ enthusiasm for teaching creates a positive learning environment where we feel encouraged to ask questions—helping us to understand the ‘why’ behind concepts, rather than just the ‘how.’
“The program’s proof-based classes, such as Advanced Calculus, Complex Variables, and Abstract Algebra, really challenge us to think critically and approach concepts from a new perspective. They force us not to take anything for granted and provide a new and at times a painful yet rewarding perspective on how to think about problems.”

Mr. Austin Maddison
Computer Science Student
“One of the best parts about our Computer Science program is the tight-knit community we have. Whether it’s TAs, ajarns, or classmates, everyone is approachable and always willing to lend a hand. Our ajarns are incredibly down-to-earth, they’re always happy to entertain our curiosities and questions.
“Another standout feature is the program’s flexibility in offering special topic courses, courses that can be requested outside the program’s syllabus. I took a Heuristic Optimization class that ended up sparking in me a deeper interest in math than I had ever expected. This experience not only built my confidence but also led me to minor in math.
“This course gave me the courage to take on more technical creative projects outside of university, like one of Bangkok Design Week’s digital installations, where I applied optimization techniques for filtering in one of the experience’s systems.”

Ms. Amber Hocks
Chemistry Student
