Chemistry Seminar in MUIC Explores the Science and Art of Perfumery

To showcase the diverse layers of chemical knowledge to students, the Chemistry Program of Mahidol University International College (MUIC) organized a student seminar entitled, “Chemical Insights into Perfume and Fragrance Design, Formulation, and Careers” on February 7, 2025 at Room 1306, MUIC Building I.

The seminar brought together Chemistry (ICCH) students and Mr. Chatnithit “Kenji” Chanthapoon, CEO, Founder, and Artist at Artisan Valley, who shared his expertise in the art of scent creation and perfumery techniques. The event featured an engaging combination of hands-on workshops and knowledge-sharing activities, covering the following topics:

  • Techniques for scent detection and evaluation;
  • Understanding fragrance notes through the Fragrance Wheel system;
  • The process of creating perfume formulas, from basic chemistry to fragrance structure;
  • Knowledge of solvents and bases used in perfumery; and
  • Career paths and business opportunities in the perfume industry

The seminar provided students with a unique opportunity to delve into the chemistry behind fragrances while gaining practical experience in scent formulation.

Joining the event was Asst. Prof. Dr. Manchuta Dangkulwanich, Program Director of Chemistry at MUIC, who highlighted the significance of interdisciplinary learning in chemistry and its real-world applications.

The ICCH program continues to organize seminars and workshops that bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry expertise, preparing students for careers in various scientific and innovative fields.
