Mahidol University International College’s (MUIC) Model United Nations (MUN) Club organized its first global tea session with “Spill the Tea: Global Talk with MUICMUN”onMay 16, 2024 at Room A451 Lecture Room, Aditayathorn Building.
During the first Spill the Tea activity, the 20 participants and MUN members gathered to discuss a global issue, namely, human rights. The moderator formally opened the event with a welcome speech and, as an introduction for the participants, shared the MUN’s definition of human rights.
Participants who were not yet familiar with the MUN procedures were thus able to understand and appreciate more what goes on in an MUN event. Club officials observed that in past events, many people declined to join their activities due to a lack of familiarity with MUN processes.
During the first session, the moderator provided the opportunity for both participants and staff committees to discuss the idea of human rights, which ranged from the issue of immigrants, foreigners, human rights activists, to Rohingya people. In this way, participants were encouraged to express their ideas and develop critical thinking skills from analyzing the issues that might be ignored by the community at large.
After the break, the participants were broken into smaller groups with different majors and year levels to allow them to talk about global issues that they were interested in. On the other hand, club members who have previously attended MUN events as either delegates or observers also shared their thoughts about certain issues.
