Genscape Club Holds Workshop on Inclusivity

The Genscape Club of Mahidol University International College (MUIC) held an event entitled “EmpowerU Lab Day Workshop” on June 11, 2024 at the Exhibition Hall, Aditayathorn Building.

The resource person was Khun Nikki Phinyapincha, Founder of TransTalents Consulting Group.

The activity began with an icebreaker, in which the 31 participants were asked to high five as many people as possible. It was observed that participants tended to high five people based on their appearances. This icebreaker then sparked a discussion about inclusivity. According to Khun Nikki, inclusivity is not only about a group of people, but rather the privileged and the underprivileged coming together and making changes. Therefore, Pride Month is not only about celebration, but also an inclusive movement for all global citizens.

After the discussion, the workshop was held in which the goal was to “Design a dream university for everyone.” The participants were then divided into four groups, each one coming up with interesting ideas. For example, one group modified the question and changed it to “Design a dream school” instead, as they said those were more restrictive than universities. The other three groups also came up with ideas to improve inclusiveness, such as facilities for disabled people, availability of ‘halal’ food, or facilities for mental well-being.

The fruitful session ended with key takeaways from Khun Nikki. First, always be more thoughtful of others and do not leave anyone behind. Second, put down your own judgment and ignorance based upon your thoughts and privileges. Lastly, making changes is not just about equality, but also about putting an end to ideas that threaten equality as well.
