Splashing into Thai Tradition: PC Students and Instructors Celebrate Songkran with Blessings and Joyful Moments

As part of the vibrant celebrations for Songkran, which is Thailand’s traditional New Year’s festival, PC students participated in the heartwarming and respectful tradition of pouring water on instructors to seek blessings. They experienced this along with staff members and fellow PC classmates on Friday, April 11, 2025 in the covered walkway of MUIC Building 2.

The previous day, both Thai and non-Thai students enjoyed a fun and relaxing flower arrangement activity for Songkran at the PC office. It was a great chance for them to try something new and creative, learn about Thai flower-arranging traditions, and enjoy time with peers in a relaxed atmosphere.

These symbolic activities, deeply rooted in Thai culture, are not only a fun and engaging way for students to celebrate Songkran but also important for fostering respect and gratitude. The water pouring symbolizes purification, and students receive blessings for good fortune, success, and happiness in the coming year. Furthermore, they are able to honor and acknowledge the role that teachers play in shaping their lives and futures.

Overall, these activities were meaningful opportunities for students to bond with instructors, staff, and classmates, to reflect on Thai customs, and to celebrate the new year with joy and respect.
