IRGA Students Gain Insight into Thai Judicial System through Supreme Court Visit

A group of 24 students from the International Relations and Global Affairs (IRGA) program of Mahidol University International College (MUIC) went on an academic field trip to the Supreme Court of Thailand on June 26, 2025.

The visit began with a warm welcome from executives of the Supreme Court as the IRGA students, accompanied by Ms. Pattaka Sa-gimnet, Program Director for General Education of the Social Science Division, had the opportunity to explore key areas within the building, including a visit to the third-floor royal statue chamber of His Royal Highness Prince Raphi Phatthanasak, Prince of Ratchaburi, known as the “Father of Thai Law.”

A special lecture session was held in Courtroom 205, where the IRGA students gained firsthand knowledge from experienced judges. The lecture covered two main topics:

  • “Judicial Appointments and Duties of Judges” delivered by
Mrs. Nawaporn Rattanawaraha, Chief Judge, Division of Assistant Judges, Supreme Court
  • “Criminal Case Proceedings Involving Political Officeholders” delivered by
Mr. Sudpiti Watthanahathai, Judge, Supreme Court; and Ms. Thanyalak Benjamano Techawutthipan, a trial court judge temporarily serving as Chief Judge, Division of Assistant Judges, Supreme Court

This visit offered IRGA students a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Thai legal and judicial systems. By observing real courtroom environments and engaging directly with professional judges, students were inspired to consider future careers in law and justice. The experience sparked thoughtful discussions and questions, reinforcing their academic learning with practical perspectives.
