Science Society Club Teaches Students How to Make their Own Soap

Mahidol University International College’s (MUIC) Science Society Club hosted a soap-making workshop for students on May 13, 2025 at the Ground Floor of Aditayathorn Building.

With the soap base made in front of their eyes by the Science Society Club staff, the 74 participating students quickly learned the soap-making process and understood the chemical processes and components behind an object they use every day. With the soap base completed, the remaining steps in the procedure were left up to students to decide exactly what kind of soap they wanted.

From size and shape to the scent, texture, and color of their soap, students picked from a variety of molds, mica powder colors, and fragrances provided to fully customize their soap bar. Ingredients such as flower petals, ground coffee, glitter, and even animal figures could also be added for increased aesthetic appeal.

After an hour of participating in the workshop, the students finished creating their own bar of soap to take home, either for practical use or for display as decoration, along with knowledge of the science behind its creation.
