Cafés, Cable Cars and History: THM Club Tours Kanchanaburi

On November 14, 2025, Mahidol University International College’s (MUIC) THM Club took 40 students on a one-day field trip through Kanchanaburi, pairing scenic stops with sobering history lessons. The group began at Meena Café, where breakfast came with sweeping views of a nearby temple and open grasslands.

Next was Wat Tham Suea, where a cable car ferried students to the summit to see a towering Buddha and browse stalls selling incense for worship. Lunch followed at riverside restaurants along the River Kwai, with the famous railway bridge serving as a dramatic backdrop.

The mood shifted at the final stops: the Allied War Cemetery—a resting place for Allied prisoners of war (POWs) who died in captivity under the Imperial Japanese Army—and the Jeath War Museum. There, students learned about the Japanese invasion of Southeast Asia and the brutal forced labor used to build the Death Railway, bringing history into sharp, human focus.
