Science Society Club Hosts Latest Scientific Podcast

Mahidol University International College’s (MUIC) Science Society Club hosted a Scientific Podcast online via Youtube on July 8, 2024 where it delved into a thought-provoking discussion on the topic, “Concepts vs Tools in STEM Education and Careers.” This episode aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and the practical skills demanded in the job market, specifically for STEM students.

The discussion was initiated with exploring real-life scenarios where recent graduates find themselves at a crossroads, equipped with theoretical knowledge but often lacking hands-on experience with essential tools. For instance, the discussion touched upon the story of a computer science graduate who never used Git or worked with APIs during his academic journey. This example segued into an examination of the disconnect between what is taught in universities and what is required in the workplace.

The hosts also shared personal experiences, such as using Git in their System Skills and Low-Level Programming classes, and how version control systems are crucial for collaborative projects.
