The Strategy and Academic Development Group hosted a “Case Studies & Student Learning Enhancement” workshop. Led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Claus Dieter Schreier from the Business Administration Division of MUIC, this workshop focused on utilizing case studies as a powerful educational tool to enhance student learning through real-world applications.

Case studies provide in-depth analysis of complex, real-life situations, encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving. They bridge theory and practice by allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical dilemmas, thus developing decision-making skills. Key benefits of case studies include active learning, fostering collaboration, enhancing communication skills, and promoting empathy by putting students in the decision-maker’s shoes. When combined with service learning, students can experience community impact, applying their case study knowledge to address societal challenges. This method prepares students for professional environments by simulating real-world conditions in a safe academic setting.

The workshop also explores strategies for creating impactful case studies in various courses, focusing on writing cases related to sustainability and ESG (environmental, social, and governance). It encourages collaboration with industries for relevant case creation and provides opportunities for students to develop professional research and consultancy skills.
