MUIC Students Celebrate Diwali

Diwali, often referred to as the Festival of Lights, is one of the most significant and widely celebrated festivals in India and among Hindu communities worldwide. Symbolizing the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness, Diwali is a time of joy, reflection, and community. Homes are decorated with candles, vibrant lights, flowers, and intricate ‘rangoli’ designs made from colored powders or rice, welcoming prosperity and positivity. The festival unites millions in its celebration of renewal, gratitude, and love. Diwali is also considered the Hindu New Year; a time for prayers, family gatherings, and sharing sweets like traditional Indian desserts. This cherished festival, a public holiday in India, transcends regional differences, illuminating hearts and homes with its universal message of hope, peace, and prosperity.

This year, the International Student Club (ISC) of Mahidol University International College (MUIC) celebrated Diwali through various walk-in workshops for students to enjoy. The workshops featured a variety of engaging activities, including henna painting, where participants received beautifully intricate traditional designs; ‘diya’-making, allowing students to mold their own vibrant clay candle holders; and ‘rangoli’-crafting, where shredded paper was used to create elaborate and colorful patterns.

The event also included captivating performances by talented MUIC students, adding to the festive atmosphere. The International Student Club (ISC) hosted this lively celebration on November 6-7, 2024 at the Ground Floor, Aditayathorn Building, with 479 students participating in the event.
