PC/MP Admissions

The Preparation Center for Languages and Mathematics (PC) assists students in improving their English and math skills before studying at MUIC.
(For Thai/Non-Thai residents in Thailand)

Thai/Foreign applicants residing in Thailand can apply to study at the Preparation Center for Language and Mathematics (PC) or Mathematical Foundations Program (MP) only after taking the MUIC Entrance Examination and when the entrance results show that their English skills and/or mathematics do not meet minimum requirements for entrance to MUIC. These applicants will be eligible to study in the PC or MP program before gaining entrance to MUIC.

Applicants who wish to study at PC for further study at other institutions are welcome to contact the PC office directly or by email to icpc@mahidol.ac.th for further admission information.

Applicants residing in and outside of Thailand who wish to improve their English language skills can directly apply to study at the Preparation Center for Languages and Mathematics (PC) through the PC Direct Track. This admission track aims at accommodating students who have met the minimum PC Admission requirements and are pursuing an English language preparatory course before furthering their studies at MUIC.

Remark:
*1. Application submitted online or by email can be time-flexible for each entry but should be processed at least 2 weeks before the scheduled Placement Test periods. Otherwise, your application will be deferred for application for the next entry.
**2. Placement Test is given in two sessions for each entry and PC will arrange the test according to the following applicant types:
A. Online (via Skype) test recommended for applicants residing in an overseas country or in a distant province/area from Mahidol University, Salaya Campus.
B. Sit-in test recommended for applicants residing in Bangkok and Mahidol University, Salaya Campus area.

Admission Requirements

  • Be Thai/Non-Thai Local OR Overseas residents
  • Have completed High School with certification showing equivalency to Thai High School*
  • Possess IELTS score of at least 4.5 or IBT TOEFL score of at least 32 or PTE score of at least 30 within the last 2 years
  • Have taken the Placement Test organized by PC in the following subjects:
    1. Essay Writing
    2. Mathematics (for majors that require math)
    3. Interview

*High school certificate and transcripts will be reviewed by the admissions staff to check its equivalency and completion. An application with incomplete high school results will be rejected.

    – For applicants with IGCSE or GED results:

    IGCSE GED

    Must have:

    1.  IGCSE, GCSE or GCE ‘O’ Level at least 5 subjects and GCE ‘AS’ Level or GCE ‘A’ Level at least 3 subjects, 8 subjects in total, with minimum Grade of C.
    2. Official high school transcript of grade 10 or its equivalent with at least 2 terms.

    Must have:

    1. Passed 4 subjects with a minimum score of 600
    2. Official high school transcript of grade 10 or its equivalent with at least 2 terms.
  • Original English proficiency test result report taken with the last two years
  • Letters of recommendation from two teachers (for applicants who have not finished high school)

    – For Thai residents: Copies of Thai ID card and residence registration
    – For Overseas residents: ALL pages of passport (color photocopied)
  • Photo (Passport/citizen ID-styled or in Student Uniform)
    – For Online Submission: .JPG format only
    – For Postal Submission: ONE 1 or 2 inch-color photo

Students in the PC Direct Track must meet the MUIC admissions regulations by passing PC level 4 in order to enroll at MUIC.

FAQ

What are the benefits of studying at PC?

Studying at PC offers several benefits. Firstly, the four levels of instruction (PC1 – PC4) offered by PC aim to improve students’ language skills, so they can continue their studies at MUIC. Additionally, PC students learn study skills, basic concepts of logic and ethics, and independent learning strategies. Students at PC also have the opportunity to take math courses.

What are the PC courses like?

There are four levels of English classes at PC. The first two levels focus on four basic skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. In the third and fourth levels, the skills are combined. The main focuses of the higher levels are term projects, group discussions, and academic essay writing.

How long do i have to spend at PC before entering MUIC?

PC students generally spend 3-12 months at the PC program, depending on their beginning level. Each PC levels takes 10 weeks, or approximately 3 months.

What are the tuition fees for the PC program?

Students are required to pay a tuition fee of 38,500 THB per PC quarter. Those who need to take a mathematics course may need to pay an additional 8,000 THB.

However, non-Thai students applying through the PC International Track will also be required to pay a one-term deposit fee of 38,500 THB. The deposit will be returned once they are enrolled at MUIC or register for the next PC quarter.

What are the visa requirements for PC international students?

Once international students are accepted to PC; they will be advised to apply for OR change visa type to a Non-Immigrant (ED) visa to study at PC. For assistance on documentation regarding visa issues, students are welcome to contact the PC office in person or via icpc@mahidol.ac.th

What kinds of support are provided to students while they are studying at PC?

PC provides a wide range of welfare and support for students, such as:

Accident insurance with the coverage of 200,000 THB and 10,000 THB for medical treatment at certified hospitals
