MUIC’s Knowledge Common event welcomed Professor David Solnet from the University of Queensland Business School, Australia

The recent Knowledge Common event titled “Building Bridges between Academic Theory and Industry Work was held on 27th October 2023, at Charinyarasmi Hall. This collaborative initiative was co-hosted by the Tourism and Hospitality Management Division (THM) and the Business Administration Division (BA), in conjunction with Research Promotion Management (RPM).

During the event, Professor Solnet shared his wealth of experiences and insights on various critical topics related to the academic career journey, including:

Bridging the Gap: Prof. Solnet shared his enriched experiences in bridging the gap between industrial consultancy and highly publishable research in top journals. Knowing your strengths, crafting your scholarly narrative and positionality, and finding the right team for success and satisfaction are key ingredients for this achievement.

Global Collaboration: Attendees gained valuable insights into the importance in creating international or industry research networks and collaborations, a crucial aspect of modern academia.

Impactful Research: Prof. Solnet emphasised making a tangible impact by tying in teaching, research, and consulting that link to multiple ‘academic outputs’. He also provided attendees with tips to ensure their work answers to the actual benefits of multiple stakeholders while reaching a broader audience with right communication messages.

Path to Professorship: He shared guidance and invaluable tips on his journey to achieving professorship, emphasising the significance of meeting institutional requirements and the critical importance of demonstrating leadership and excellence, as well as having a global and connected narrative, before applying for the professorship position. The event proved to be an inspiring platform for fruitful discussions and knowledge sharing for our attendees, furthering MUIC’s commitment to advancing academic excellence and research.

This collaborative endeavor between Mahidol University and Prince of Songkla University, funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation in Thailand, aims to leverage the expertise of visiting professors to stimulate research activities and provide MUIC faculty members with invaluable research insights.
