The Summer Program Abroad scholarship provides MUIC students with the opportunity to explore an entirely new culture, make new friends, and at the same time improve their third language to a remarkable extent. The teachers at the Alliance Française in Nice were very nice, and speaking French throughout our stay has helped us gain a lot of confidence. The atmosphere in the classroom motivated us to speak out our minds and take part in conversations, which were all in French. The activities provided after classes included excursions to popular places in Nice, discussions with friends from higher levels, and an evening at the cafe where we hung out with French-speaking friends.  We all loved our host family, who were very friendly and welcoming towards us. Since we all lived separately, we gained a lot of responsibility and were able to learn more about French culture and lifestyle. Our host families tried to engage us in conversations during dinner. They recommended places for us to visit or gave us advice for the trips we were going to make. Staying with them also helped us improve our written French skills, as we conversed with them regularly through texts and emails. What was unforgettable was that we explored new places, got lost together, and ate pain au chocolat avec un mocha (chocolate croissant and coffee), which was the best we’ve ever tasted!). We went to Cannes, Eze, Antibes, Menton, Monaco, Villefranche-sur-mer, and we even went on an additional trip to Milan in Italy! We studied hard and played hard, and we spent time as efficiently as we could so we wouldn’t regret our one month’s stay in Nice.  Ms. Natkamol Im-artes and Ms. Chompunuch Phinyosmosorn, who are both enrolled in the ICCU program (now known as ICIC in the new curriculum), are recipients of MUIC’s Foreign Language Ambassador Scholarship grant in 2019.
