An alumnus of Mahidol University International College (MUIC) was selected as a finalist in the Ocean Photography Awards under the category of “Ocean Exploration Photographer of the Year” on November 19, 2020.
Mr. Sirachai “Shin” Arunrugstichai, an Environmental Science alumnus from the Class of 2011, said his photo entry, which also received a “Highly Commended” mark in the competition, was taken at Koh Bulon Lae Island, Thailand. It shows Staghorn corals exposed at low tide with the Milky Way galaxy visible in the distance. He added that he had waited for 10 months for the Milky Way and the corals to fit in the same frame.
Ocean Photography Awards, presented by Oceanographic Magazine, deals with issues of conservation, as well as showing off adventures in and exploration of nature. The awards were organized in partnership with SeaLegacy, an organization composed of photographers focused on ocean conservation.
