HLD, FAA Organize “Arts and Culture Festival”

The Humanities and Language Division (HLD) and the Fine and Applied Arts Division (FAA) formally opened their joint event entitled, “Arts and Culture Festival” with a keynote speech by Dr. Chariya Brockelman, professor emerita and former dean of Mahidol University International College (MUIC), on February 27, 2024 at Charinyarasami Hall.

Prof. Chariya, who served as college dean from 1997 to 2008, is widely credited for the intensive internationalization of the college during her tenure. In her speech on the topic of liberal arts education, she briefly recounted the history of MUIC—from its beginnings as the International Students Degree Program in 1986 to its present-day status as Thailand’s leading international college offering 17 degree programs with 4,000 students. The former dean also discussed the benefits that students would get from studying liberal arts courses.

The “Arts and Culture Festival,” with its theme “Voices: Past, Present, Future,” will run until February 29 and will feature activities including student exhibitions, cultural demonstrations, workshops and speaking events.
