More than 30 people participated in the “Unseen Salaya” field trip conducted by Rakkaew Sustainable Development Club, a student club of Mahidol University International College (MUIC), on February 1, 2020.
The participants explored the local community of Klong Mahasawat in Salaya, Nakhon Pathom province for one day, taking a boat ride to visit a lotus farm where they also learned how to fold the lotuses the traditional way, visiting Baan Saladin and learning how to make rice crackers from leftovers, walking through the fruit orchards by the banks of the canal and tasting local fruits like jackfruits, mangoes, guavas and pomelos. They also bought “One Tambon, One Product” (OTOP) snacks to bring home with them.
The trip also gave the participants a chance to see firsthand how the residents of the local community live. They interviewed and gathered much information from several residents and conducted a brainstorming activity to come up with ideas on how to improve the community in the last activity called “Design Thinking.”
