MUIC Celebrates 15th Year of Foreign Language Minor Program

The Humanities and Language Division (HLD) of Mahidol University International College (MUIC) successfully celebrated the 15th anniversary of its Foreign Language Minor Program on March 7, 2019 at Charinyarasami Hall in Aditayathorn Building.

More than 200 students attended the event. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chulathida Chomchai, MUIC Dean, delivered the welcome remarks. Dr. Chariya Brockelman, Professor Emerita and former MUIC Dean; and Dr. Gérard Fouquet, former HLD Chair, were the guest speakers.

Prof. Brockelman emphasized the importance of foreign language skills while Dr. Fouquet traced the history of the Foreign Language Minor Program which was established during his term.

Two officials from the French Embassy, Mrs. Caroline Schmitt, Linguistic Attache; and Mrs. Vipha Suchinai-Bervas, Attache’s Assistant; along with a faculty member of Chiba University, Dr. Hikari Ishido; also attended the event.

Among the other MUIC executives who came to the occasion were Ms. Arpaporn Iemubol, Associate Dean for Administration, Dr. Chompunuch Pongjit, Associate Dean for Educational Affairs, Dr. Alex Nanni, Associate Dean for International Affairs, Ms. Ruchi Agarwal, Assistant Dean for Educational Affairs, and Mr. Songpole Sangthong, Assistant to the Associate Dean for Educational Affairs.

HLD officials and faculty members led by its Chair, Asst. Prof. Dr. Analiza Liezl Perez-Amurao, Dr. Prateep Wongverayuth, Vice Chair, and Mr. Julien Hardy, ICCU Program Director, were also present.

A group of MUIC alumni who graduated with a foreign language minor served as members of the discussion panel moderated by Asst. Prof. Nicholas Ferriman of HLD’s English Program. The alumni shared their ideas and experiences with MUIC students. They were Ms. Vorakarn Chalermchaikij (2015, Minor in French), a part-time Lecturer in Thonburi Rajabhat University and Ph.D. candidate, Assumption University; Mr. Assadayoot Limpannavisit (2015, Minor in Chinese), Sales and Marketing Director at Siang Xeand Product Co., Ltd.; Mr. Tayakorn Anek (2015, Minor in Chinese), Founder of TSquare Distributor; Mr. Athikun Suwannakhan (2015, Minor in Spanish), Ph.D. Candidate, Mahidol University Royal Golden Jubilee; and Mr. Wisarut Mahitiwanicha (2011, Minor in Japanese), Managing Partner and Co-founder of Vitatrade Thailand and Business Development Specialist of Cargo Network services Co., Ltd.

The Foreign Language Program, under Mrs. Agnieszka Atthasit, Program Director; and Mr. Jun Toyama, Program Coordinator, organized the event.
