Social Science Student from MUIC Attends Asian Undergraduate Summit 2019

A Social Science student of Mahidol University International College (MUIC) represented Mahidol University in the Asian Undergraduate Summit 2019 (China Leg) under the theme of “Sustainable Cities” on June 2-8, 2019 at Zhejiang University, China.

Mr. Pawinpon “Elf” Theerawong, who is also the Mahidol University International Relations Ambassador, led his team composed of nine other students from different top Asian universities to win the summit’s Best Group Award.

His team was assigned to develop a plan to build a city that is energy self-sufficient, eco-friendly, and sustainable for a population of 100 people. Combining the specialization of group members from various majors—be it agriculture, computer engineering, economics, law, and international relations, with the sustainable cities-related knowledge learned from the lectures, activities, and field trips held during the conference—along with placing emphasis on the areas of social structure, education, livelihood, economy, security, law and law enforcement, government, and international relations, helped them in winning the award.

Aside from attending the conference, he also accomplished his duty as the Mahidol University International Relations Ambassador in establishing a good relationship with Zhejiang University, paving the way for future cooperation between Mahidol University and Zhejiang University. He has met with the vice dean of Chu Kochen Honors College, an elite college exclusive to only the top undergraduates of Zhejiang University, and presented to him information brochures and a premium souvenir from Mahidol University. He also befriended several delegates during the conference.

Asian Undergraduate Summit 2019 (China Leg) under the theme of “Sustainable Cities,” hosted by Zhejiang University, is part of the Asian Undergraduate Summit 2019: Harnessing Untapped Potential, a 2-leg summit where delegates have to participate in one of the overseas legs to China, India, Indonesia, Korea, or Thailand, after which all will gather at the final leg in Singapore to synthesize all the knowledge gained from different overseas conferences.
