An Indonesian academic gave a lecture on “Freedom to Learn: A New Education System in Indonesian Universities” via Zoom on September 23, 2022.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Akhyar Rido, a visiting scholar and a faculty member of the Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia explained that “Freedom to Learn—Independent Campus” is the newest program in Indonesian higher education institutions that aims to “prepare university students to respond to global competitiveness and rapidly transforming societies, workplaces, and environments.

He added that under this program, students have the opportunity to undertake learning outside conventional classrooms for an equivalent of 40 credits. They can do so through student exchange programs, internships in industries, working in the academe (for instance working as a teaching assistant in a school), getting involved in humanitarian projects and even starting their own business.

For several weeks in August and September, Dr. Rido conducted research in MUIC on the topic of online teaching and learning during the pandemic.
